The Windham Ballroom | 40 The Square | Bellows Falls, VT
TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE DOOR: $20.00 Limited.
On Sunday, November 24, folk icon Mark Erelli honors the valley with a brunchtime show. Erelli’s not some grizzled road dog from the sepia-toned past but it’s hard to imagine the modern folk scene without him. The fourteen odd years that he’s been making music professionally has helped to infuse the industry with his own youthful vigor, all while he became a fixture in his own right. With eight or eleven records behind him, depending how you count, Erelli has a considerable oeuvre from which to build a live show and in his spare time he’s also been a brilliant side man for a number of geniuses. He also produced a record for Lori Mckenna, of which he’s proud, and he blogs like a champion on his website, www.markerelli.com,this month reminding us that regardless of the so-called progress of music distribution technology, it’s still incumbent on the audience to participate in ways that benefit the objects of their musical affection. He also has the insight and gumption to claim that playing in Bellows Falls is “like doing a gig inside a Bill Morrisey song.” You’ll have to show up to see what he means and if, in fact, he’s still correct.
Now he’s made a record with the young and talented Hayley Reardon, a teenaged songwriting award winner from Boston who has the media in a flutter about her future. It’s the kind of press that makes one feel faint: “a bright star on the horizon and a glorious addition to the future of acoustic music,” Performer Magazine trumpeted in a way that makes one think Three Wise Men might be riding camels towards her shows. People who saw the Erelli/Reardon show at Club Passim have been gushing with similar high marks. She’ll be playing with a trio featuring famed producer Lorne Entress on percussion and Berklee Prof and extraordinary cellist, Catherine Bent. The intimacy of The Windham Ballroom amplifies whatever happens on stage. Don’t miss this opportunity to see a seasoned modern veteran paired with the luster of a young ingenue.
There are even more bonus elements to this show, namely that it happens at midday and is accompanied by our delicious brunch, all served in the fabulous Windham Ballroom.
Tickets are $18 advance, $20 day of show, and the “Best In House” seats are $30. They go quickly. Doors open at 11:30 and music begins at noon.
