Green Mountain Express!

The Green Mountain Express Concert:
JIMMIE DALE GILMORE, SYD STRAW, WINTERPILLS, MEADOWS BROS.

Be a part of the first-ever Roots on the Rails trip in Vermont! Legendary Texas singer-songwriter Jimmie Dale Gilmore accompanied by his son Colin Gilmore. Vermont vocalist nonpareil Syd Straw. Ethereal duo Winterpills and fast-rising Americana tunesmiths The Meadows Bros. All together on the stage at the Windham Ballroom for an unforgettable evening sharing songs, stories and laughter.

This show is part of a full weekend of activities, including an all-day chartered train from Bellows Falls to Rutland and return – Four 1930’s-era rail cars: the Performance Car – a small stage area at one end, and audience seats the length of the car; next, a lounge for hanging out, with cash beverage service (beer/wine/soft drinks) and complimentary fresh, locally-sourced and prepared snacks during the day. Third, a table-and-chair car, a place for you to stow your gear, have to our own and get away from the crowd. These three cars were among the first streamliners built for the Santa Fe Railway. Our final, ‘deluxe car’, The MacIntyre, a vintage business car, comes complete with open-end observation platform, brass fixtures, formal lounge and dining room.

The route the train travels is the historic Rutland Railway over the Green Mountains. From the first few miles along the Connecticut River, at Herrick’s Cove we turn inland and follow the Williams River past Brockway’s Mills, Lower Bartonsville and two covered bridges to Chester, then climbing through the Proctorsville Gulf to the ski town of Ludlow. From there we wind past the slopes of Okemo Mountain to Mount Holly and the crest of the Greens at Summit in Mt. Holly. From there, we drift downward to Cuttingsville, cross the legendary Appalachian Trail and roll through East Wallingford and into Rutland. After an hour’s leg-stretching break, we retrace our route.
